Living in Downtown San Diego is an amazing experience. Part of the value of the lifestyle that comes with owning a condo or loft in Downtown San Diego is being centrally located to some of San Diego’s best attractions: The San Diego Bay, Petco Park, The New Central Library, The Gaslamp, and the Convention Center. For those of us who live here…and for those who visit, we are always on the look out for new ideas and new projects that will improve our community in Downtown San Diego. Modeled after the iconic Highline on Manhattan’s West Side, Downtown San Diego’s Waterfront may soon have an equally inspired “green space”. We first heard of the idea on the blog for VisitSanDiego.COM last month. In a post Entitled: Rooftop Park Will Energize San Diego’s Waterfront, they describe how a brand new “urban” playground is being planned for San Diego’s Downtown waterfront. Locals and visitors alike will not only be able to enjoy panoramic bay and city views but also Events, Festivals, Art, and a Relaxing Garden from this 5 acre roof top outdoor park to be built on top of the Convention Center expansion.
“The five-acre rooftop park will enhance public access to the bay by creating inviting and interactive spaces for all to enjoy. Allowing for events of all sizes, the 350-seat, 5,000 sf Pavilion area will feature a main stage, while the adjacent Great Lawn will accommodate more than 4,500 concert and event-goers. Other defined spaces of the park will include a central gathering area with shade and benches known as the Living Room.”
When constructed (Set to break ground in early 2015), this rooftop gem will be one of the largest park areas in Downtown, and will bring the south-western area (Marina Park South) of Downtown San Diego’s waterfront alive. Enjoy a perfect 70 degree sunny day with the city skyline as your back drop and the wind in your hair. Just another way to enjoy our beautiful city.
