The Little Italy neighborhood of San Diego is getting an exciting new look. Several projects have been proposed, with some already underway. All are going to make Little Italy even more enjoyable for visitors and residents alike. If you’re thinking of buying a Little Italy condo for sale, read on to learn more about the upcoming developments.
The Piazza
The Piazza Famiglia is the first major renovation project to be started in Little Italy for several years. The grand pedestrian walkway will be lined with moveable stalls and the opening will welcome back the Mercato Farmers’ Market vendors to these stalls. For other events or concerts, the stalls can be moved as needed. Set to resemble the famous piazzas in Italy, Italian architecture will dominate the area with the focal point being a large fountain. Additional benches and planned seating areas will encourage everyone who visits to embrace the leisurely appeal of the area.
Two new apartment buildings are being incorporated into the design as well. Each will add a combination of commercial and residential space, and the 10,000 square foot space is destined to be the heart of Little Italy. Additional parking will also be a welcome addition to the area.
Residential, Retail, and Commercial Space
In addition to the Piazza Famiglia, Little Italy is also slated to get a 24-story building at the corner of Columbia and Ash. The structure will be a combination of retail and residential floors. Almost 5,000 square feet will be dedicated to new retail shops while 19 floors will house new residents. Five floors of underground parking, in addition to 3 parking floors above ground will be provided. Residents will enjoy a common rooftop area, complete with a pool.
In addition to the Piazza and apartments, recent openings of upscale restaurants have given Little Italy a boost in the culinary world. Juniper & Ivy, Bracero, and Kettner Exchange have each contributed to increasing attention of Little Italy’s dining and nightlife scene.
