June is shaping up to be a great month in downtown San Diego, with festivals, dancing, and one-of-a-kind classes sharing space on residents’ calendars. Read on to learn more about a few of the events generating buzz among downtown San Diego residents.
What’s the Big Idea
Date: June 4th

San Diego’s East Village is one of the last places in the downtown area to experience full urban development. Maker’s Quarter, a consortium of East Village artists, developers, and entrepreneurs, will be hosting “What’s the Big Idea?” on June 4th. This interactive forum and documentary screening will feature artists, developers, educators, and others who will share their visions for the future of this budding neighborhood. A reception featuring local beer and craft cocktails will follow the forum.
Salsa Under the Stars
Date: June 19th
Time: 6-9pm
Cost: Free
Love to dance but hate the thought of a summer evening spent inside? Look no further than Salsa Under the Stars, a night of salsa dancing at the Headquarters at Seaport, an open air events center located right on the waterfront in the Marina District. The Manny Cepeda Orchestra will provide live accompaniment–no partner or dancing experience required.
Twisted Manzanita Anniversary

Local food and drink lovers should head to Maker’s Quarter on June 27th for a fifth anniversary celebration in honor of local brewery and spirit maker Twisted Manzanita. All of the brand’s most popular beers and spirits will be available, as well as their debut sour beer. Food from neighborhood restaurants and live music will round out the offerings at this tasty, lively gathering. All proceeds from ticket sales go to the EOD Warrior Foundation.
Cheesy Delight

Cheese lovers and budding cooks will be rushing to the “Make Mozz and Ricotta” class offered at the Headquarters at Seaport Village. Expert cheese makers will share the ins and outs of these well-loved Italian cheeses, and will provide liberal samples for tasting and to take home. A complimentary glass of wine is included in the price.
Yoga You Won’t Forget

The brand new Waterfront Park is an ideal location for relaxation: lush green gardens, an elaborate fountain, and the soothing sound of the bay all make for a perfect urban getaway. Head over in the morning for Yoga Rocks the Park, an unforgettable yoga experience on the lawn with Heather Grisco from The Little Yoga Studio.
