Many of our homeowner clients who reside in East Village Condos have been asking us what their best option is when it comes to grocery stores in Downtown. Living in East Village of Downtown San Diego provides you with easy access to restaurants, boutiques, and nightlife just outside of your door but convenient access to quality grocery stores has been a bit of a sticky point in the past.
For East Village residents, your options are limited to an Albertson’s on 14th and Market, not exactly in the most desirable part of the neighborhood, or to head all the way to the Ralph’s on 1st and Market. For those of us searching for a healthier alternative, the process is even tougher. Residents in the East Village condos currently have to drive to Point Loma or Hillcrest to get to the closest Trader Joes and/or Whole Food Market.
Good news is on the horizon though. Opening soon in Horton Plaza, across from the 24 hour fitness, will be a new Jimbo’s natural food market. Jimbo’s is a San Diego County based natural foods store, similar to Trader Joe’s. Also upcoming, residents of Little Italy will enjoy the new Hanson’s Organic Market on the bottom level of the Ariel Suites development which is under construction on Kettner & Beech. Ariel Suites is the newest apartment project in Downtown with mixed use commercial located on the bottom floors.
