Summer is looming and with warm weather comes weekend after weekend of festival fun. Looking for fun ways to get outdoors this season? Here are a few upcoming events worth checking out.
Gator by the Bay
Gator by the Bay has brought the music, food and culture of Louisiana’s Cajun Country to San Diego since 2001. From May 5 to May 8, festivalgoers are treated to live music on seven different stages and can shop for goods in the festival’s marketplace. There’s also a children’s area with games and activities. Free dance lessons, cooking demonstrations and parades are more highlights of the festival.
A kickoff concert starts at 6pm on Thursday, May 5. The festival takes place at Spanish Landing Park, which is across from San Diego Airport.
San Diego Beer and Music Festival
Say cheers for a charitable cause at the San Diego Beer and Music Festival. More than 100 craft beers will be on tap for festivalgoers to sample. The event raises money for the non-profit organization Leah’s Pantry. Leah’s Pantry promotes healthier eating as a way to prevent diseases through its nutritional programs.
In addition to the beer, the festival features live bands and DJs. It takes place Saturday, May 7, from 6pm to 10pm at NTC Park in Liberty Station.
Ocean Beach Street Fair and Chili Cook-Off
The 37th annual Ocean Beach Street Fair and Chili Cook-Off combines the beach, live music, a street fair and a chili competition into one event on Saturday, June 25, from 10am to 8pm. Tap into your inner street artist and participate in the festival’s popular community moral. For $10, festivalgoers can paint a square on a moral wall. The participation fee includes painting supplies. The chili competition categories include Hottest Chili, Judges’ Award, and People’s Choice Award. Entry to the street fair is free.
