With September’s onset, crowds thin out, the climate becomes idyllic, hovering in the upper 70s, and fun-filled events are scheduled throughout the downtown area. Here are a few must-do events coming to the city this autumn handpicked by downtown San Diego real estate agents.
1. Restaurant Week
September 25 to October 2
The autumn theme for this culinary showcase is “Fresh and Delicious!” For eight days, you’re invited to relish nutritious local food at participating restaurants. Area distributors partner with 180 eateries across San Diego, serving farm-to-table fare at discounted prices. Savor a two-course lunch at fixed prices of $10, $15, and $20 per person. Dinner is a three-course feast from a fixed-price menu for $20, $30, $40, or $50 per person. Reservations are recommended.
2. Maker Faire
October 1 and 2 from 10am to 6pm
If you’re a fan of science, craft, and county fairs, this event is for you! Dubbed the “Greatest Show-and-Tell on Earth,” this event gathers area inventors in the fields of engineering, science and technology, arts and crafts, and craft beer. Over 200 “makers” want to share their discoveries with you and the projects, experiments, and hobbies that birthed them. Speakers will cover a range of subjects, explaining how to design your own products and even start a business! Among your creative options are robotics, leather craft, ceramics, photography, soldering, and rocketry.
Additionally, a ticket purchase gives you access to 10 Balboa Park museums, Spanish Village, The Old Globe, and all outdoor exhibits. At the Beer Gardens, you can watch craftsmen and taste their samples. You’ll also learn the science of brewing ale.
3. Italian Festa
October 9 from 10am to 6pm
This Italian festival is the largest hosted on the West Coast. People flock from all over to celebrate Italian-American heritage in San Diego’s iconic neighborhood. The event also honors the history of Little Italy. Festa spans 12 blocks and features 150 vendors. Among the thrilling activities are a Sicilian flag parade, live ethnic music, and competitions for bocce ball and stickball. Italian cuisine is available al fresco.
Another novel feature is Gesso Italiano, a chalk art showcase. Over 60 of the county’s leading chalk artists transform San Diego’s streets into a colorful canvas. Watch the magic emerge from the blacktop!
4. Fall Back Festival
November 6 from 11am to 4pm
Re-set your clock and time-travel back to the 1880s at this annual street fair, a favorite among kids. They’ll learn how Gaslamp residents lived during the Old West days, taking turns at butter churning, candle dipping, and watching a blacksmith forge tools. Additional thrills are panning for gold, pony rides, and face-painting. Meanwhile, they’ll be treated to free snacks, including quesadillas and popcorn.
Fall is also a great time to house hunt, after the business summer season and before the slow winter season. Check out condos in downtown San Diego for sale and get settled in just in time for the holidays. For help during your search, give us a call at (619) 649-0368 today. ')}
