Located on Kettner Avenue in the same building as some of the most desirable condos in Little Italy, San Diego, vegan eatery Café Gratitude offers all 100 percent organic, plant-based vegan menu options for the healthy foodies in the neighborhood. The chain, which also has locations in Kansas City, Santa Cruz, Berkeley, and L.A., uses ingredients from local organic growers, blending healthy eating with environmental awareness. San Diego-Based Grammy winner Jason Mraz is an investor in the café, and although he owns a local avocado farm, most of his avos go to Chipotle, another chain that promotes sustainability. Café Gratitude will serve breakfast, lunch, and dinner (open 8am to 10pm), including options like:
- Barbecue tempeh scramble
- Buckwheat-flax pancakes
- Superfood salad of perennials
- Collard spring rolls
- Raw lasagna
- Eggplant parmesan
- Raw pizza
- Indian curry
- Raw tacos
- Pesto kelp noodles
Drinks like Arabica bean coffee, Progurt, and organic wines, beers, and spritzers round out the menu. Most menu items are named after positive affirmations like “I am fulfilled,” “Humble,” and “Grateful” and play a role in promoting a supportive environment for customers that’s ultimately grounded in gratitude. Diners with a sweet tooth will also enjoy the desserts like Key lime pie, strawberry shortcake, the house-made chocolate sampler, and shakes. The company is planning another expansion later this year just up the coast in Newport Beach. Interested in learning more about the area?
