The plan to redevelop the waterfront from Laurel Street to the G Street Mole in the Columbia District in Downtown San Diego is moving along. The North Embarcadero Visionary Plan Phase 1 (NEVP) has opportunities to create a more environmental friendly waterfront, widen pedestrian areas, adding landscaping, public art and gathering spaces.
The design for the plan is going green as the esplanade area will be constructed with accessibility in mind, compromising a grid among the tree patterns to allow for walking patterns to naturally develop and buildings designed around view corridors – minimizing their impact on the environment. Water quality bands with a natural filtering element will clean water as it flows off the new pathway, keeping Downtown San Diego and the San Diego Bay clean.
