The festival features a new Italian film every Saturday through August 25th at the Amici Park outdoor amphitheater at the corner of State and Date. The festival will feature Italian comedies and dramas with English subtitles such as Poli Opposti (Opposites Attract), Funne (Sea Dreaming Girls), and La Tenerezza (Holding Hands). 2. Bayside Summer Nights – San Diego Symphony
June 29th through September 2nd
Every summer, San Diego natives and visitors gather on the downtown-adjacent Embarcadero Marina Park South for Bayside Summer Nights, the San Diego Symphony’s long-running summer concert series. Enjoy live music in one of San Diego’s most picturesque settings with a diverse lineup that includes classical music, Motown, jazz, and 80s hits. The 10-week season begins with the Star Spangled Pops from June 29th through July 1st before concluding with the 1812 Tchaikovsky Spectacular from August 31st through September 2nd.
3. Big Bay Boom
July 4th
The Port of San Diego will once again present its annual fireworks display from several barges on the bay. The Big Bay Boom is one of the largest annual fireworks shows in the country and one of the most complex with four barges that shoot off simultaneous fireworks coordinated to a soundtrack played over the radio. Grab your lawn chairs and a group of friends to celebrate Independence Day in style. The Marina District offers one of the best viewing spots in the city with the area from Grape Street to Broadway available to view the show.
4. Padres Beerfest at Petco Park
July 13th, August 17th, and September 28th
If you’re planning to catch a Padres game this summer, don’t forget to stop in for Beerfest at Petco Park, which features sample beers from 18 breweries with 12-ounce samples for $5. The beer tasting begins at 4:30pm and continues until the first pitch. On these dates, admission is free with a ticket to the Friday game.
5. Comic-Con International
July 19th through the 22nd
Comic-Con International is the country’s largest pop culture event, drawing thousands of celebrities, artists, and fans every year to downtown San Diego to celebrate popular movies, comic books, and memorabilia. Show up in your best cosplay costume to take part in workshops, panels, movie previews, awards ceremonies, and the costume contest. If you don’t have a badge, you can still enjoy many of the attractions outside the Convention Center and throughout the downtown area.
6. US Sand Sculpting Challenge
August 31st through September 3rd
The Sand Sculpting Challenge and Dimensional Art Exposition returns to the downtown waterfront for its seventh year as one of the world’s biggest sand-sculpting competitions. The event takes place on the beach built just for this occasion as more than 300 tons of sand are dumped on the Big Bay. American Express named The Sand Sculpting Challenge as one of the top 20 “Must See” seaside festivals on earth, and it’s open to the public.
