Summer may technically be coming to a close, but if you recently bought a condo for sale in downtown San Diego, you know it’s always a good time to sit outside and enjoy a margarita. Here’s where to find the best.
1. La Puerta
La Puerta is a favorite among locals, known for their great Mexican food and spicy drinks. Stop in and try the spicyrita made with barrel-aged Dos Lunas. The hot drink is infused with serrano peppers, agave, and fresh lime juice. If you prefer to feel your lips after taking a sip, try their slushy margarita, which you can get for $5 from 10pm to close Tuesdays through Sundays.
2. The Lion’s Share
You’ll be hard pressed to find a smoky drink as good as the Hunter Thompson as The Lion’s Share. Mezcal, pineapple-infused rum, raspberry, lime, barrel-aged bitters, and agave make this drink one of the record books, even if it’s playing fast and loose with the definition of margarita. The restaurant also serves a more traditional option with tequila, lemon, and habanero strawberry shrub.
3. The Blind Burro
You can’t go anywhere in San Diego without finding another variation of a spicy margarita. At The Blind Burro, this drink with an Hornitos base and infused with blood orange packs a punch worth writing home about.
4. Bracero Cocina de Raiz
Well-known Tijuana chef Javier Plascencia is at the helm of Bracero, so it’s no surprise it gets a mention on this list. During happy hour, which runs 11:30am to 6pm on weekdays, you can try the Javier Wallbanger made from blanco tequila, herbal Galliano liqueur, orange, lemon, vanilla, and allspice. It’s particularly nice around Christmas.
5. Puesto at the Headquarters
The Mercado margarita here is true to the name, but takes it up a notch using high quality ingredients including Pierre Ferrand dry curacao, Casa Noble Crystal organic tequila, agave, and locally produced organic citrus.
